TEKO MODISE

From the microphone of Rocky Evans.

So the former Orlando Pirates dynamo has a new lease on life.

"There was no problem between myself and the coach at Pirates" he was heard saying to Robbie Marawa. But still he was an almost absent influence for the Bucaneers this season with only 6 starts in 24 league and cup outings. The exception - a Man of the Match appearance aganst the Dube Birds. His last appearance was on 22 December against the Tycoons in the PSL, the day he celebrated his 28th birthday.

What a turnaround from a player who was on top of his game in the Confederations Cup. But wasn't that 19 months ago. That said, Modise does possess a good footballing brain and at his best can wow the fans with his skill.

There does appear to be a gap for the lad at Sundowns, who although having a squad of talented players (and plenty of them) still have options for Modise from the right. There is competition from another former Supersport United export in Elias Pelebe who himself is a little short of gametime this season and it will be interesting if coach Lopez will give Modise a run against Platinum Stars (the side he last appeared against in a Bucs jersey) on Sunday.

If Teko is able to put his recent troubles behind him, he can resurrect his career and perhaps even convince one of his biggest supporters, Pitso Mosimane, that national honours would not be wasted on him. The soccer fraternity will be watching with interest.

Time will tell and those of you who already know what jersey number Teko will be playing in - 8ta Teko.
